- The Theory of Everything, featuring Best Actor winner Eddie Redmayne, based on the book Travelling to Infinity by Jane Hawking
- Still Alice, based on the book of the same title by Lisa Genova, for which Julianne Moore won Best Actress
- The Imitation Game, which won Best Adapted Screenplay, based on the book Alan Turing: The Enigma by Andrew Hodges
- The Grand Budapest Hotel, winner of Best Costume Design, based on The Collected Stories of Stefan Zweig
- American Sniper, winner for Best Sound Editing, based on the book of the same title by Chris Kyle
- Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, Wild by Cheryl Strayed, Foxcatcher by Mark Schultz, and Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand were all books whose movie adaptations received nominations
